Unite craft exhibition SUGGESTED BY TEAMY DJ AT WRONG ISLAND, NICE’N’SLEAZY, GLASGOW

‘The Collins Gallery at Strathclyde University (sadly under threat of closure) is currently hosting an exhibition by craftscotland. Far from being a stereotypical “hippies making beaded bracelets” affair, this is a wonderful exhibition by 38 makers who have mastered traditional arts to create genuinely captivating pieces. It’s a combination of the “Oh wow, that's beautiful!” of an art gallery and the “It's amazing to think someone hand-made that” of a museum, but with the added ability to be able to buy something from the exhibition rather than the gift shop. Plus, one of the exhibits (Emma Shannon's weavings of brutalist architecture) is accompanied by a soundscape by Rubadub's own Aleks Jurczyk, just in case you were wondering where the musical angle was.” Collins Gallery, Glasgow, until Sat 7 May. The next Wrong Island is Sat 14 May. For more on the Collins Gallery closure, see column, page 8.
