86 THE LIST 23 Jun–21 Jul 2011

New Jersey dweller Dayve (that’s right, there’s a ‘Y’ in there) Hawk first made a name for himself as frontman of Hail Social, then put out solo stuff under the names Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes. His first album as Memory Tapes was Seek Magic, a bendy, dreamy, kaleidoscopic-pop affair, which generated a very well-deserved buzz, and left him forever linked to the ‘chillwave’ scene. Will he shake the genre loose on album two? Player Piano comes out on 4 July (Carpark Records), see list.co.uk for our upcoming review. The Arches, Glasgow, Fri 8 Jul.
