How did you get that job?

Name: Judith Dryden Best / Worst Aspects? The worst

Job title: Solicitor Company: Wright & Co musicwright.co.uk

When did you start your job? I came here in January 2011. I was previously employed by a big commercial firm, but a brief stint at BBC Radio 6 Music and a fateful lunch date with the lovely Tom Robinson made me realise I had to move in to an area of law in which I was genuinely interested. So what does your job actually involve? It varies from day to day depending on what my clients need. I act for individuals, companies, bands, managers, promoters and anybody else needing legal advice in the music and entertainment industry. This means I negotiate everything from management contracts and record deals to leases for commercial properties, as well as the odd court action for recovery of unpaid fees.

bit, I think for most lawyers, is the dull admin side, and also having to try and

make a living out of it when everybody is skint! The best bit is knowing you’ve

got a good deal for somebody, like spotting problems with a contract

which could potentially have caused

them serious problems in the future and

sorting it all out.

Looking back, what advice would you give to a young

Judith at the start of her

career? I would tell her to be more

confident and not get caught up in what

everybody else is doing. A lot of folk

are just full of nonsense, and it takes a while to realise that and trust your own

judgement.

and finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in

2011? Fingers crossed some of my

bands make the big time (and then take me along to festivals, VIP style I’m

getting too old for camping)!
