Exclusive Covent Garden restaurant J Sheekey will be bringing a pop-up operation to Edinburgh for two days in August Words: Donald Reid

L ots of London-based stand-ups come to Edinburgh in August but, unlike rock stars, they don’t tend to bring their own chefs. There is, however, a tantalising glimpse of London’s glamorous restaurant scene to be found at Ondine (pictured, left) on 5 and 6 August, when J Sheekey, the Covent Garden fish restaurant that’s part of the Caprice/Ivy group, reprises a successful visit last summer with another two-day pop-up. Sheekey’s head chef is Edinburgh-born Richard Kirkwood, who used to work with Ondine’s main man Roy Brett in London. The pair, who are both strong supporters of sustainable fish, will be replicating Sheekey’s menu for lunch and dinner on Saturday 5 August, while another key component of the London operation, maitre d’ John Andrews, mans the door. For brunch on the Sunday there will be special version of Sheekey’s Speakeasy, with Hardeep Singh Kohli hosting a seafood and cabaret combo. ondinerestaurant.co.uk

There’s a different pop-up happening in the hallowed Signet Library beside St Giles’, with a champagne bar open 11am–11pm from 5–29 August.

Masterchef 2011 winner Tim Anderson will be at the Caley Sample Room on 15 August cooking up a five-course meal matched with six beers from the Black Isle Brewery. Broughton Street’s status as the local street for food-lovers has risen another notch with a new branch of the Bruntsfield-based Coco Chocolate at number 71.
