POLISH FILM FEST PRESSES PLAY
Excellent mobile filmfest Play Poland has landed on our shores this month. Screenings and events, which began on 2 Aug, will run until 25 Sep throughout Scotland, mostly at the Glasgow Film Theatre and Edinburgh Filmhouse. Films include features Little Rose (2010) directed by Jan Kidawa- Blonski, General Nil (2009) directed by Ryszard Bugajski, Black (2009) directed by Dominic Matwiejczyk, Horizontal 8 (2009) directed by Grzegorz Lipiec and Mystification (2009) directed by Jacek Koprowicz. A Film Mountain strand will also allow the audience to see a series of shorter films. As well as the films, audiences will have the chance to enjoy a collection of Polish film posters, created for Hungarian, American and East German films. Among the poster artists whose works are going to be on display are Pagowski, Majewski, Mlodozeniec, Swierzy, Neugebauer, Eidrigevicius and many more. See playpoland.org.pl for more.

NewsExtra CHILIS ANNOUNCE GLASGOW DATE ■ Veteran California funk-rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced their first tour of UK and Ireland since 2006. They’ll be playing at various venues around the country throughout November, stopping in at Glasgow’s SECC on Sat 12 Nov. This will be the band’s first tour in the UK with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, after John Frusciante left on good terms to pursue a solo career in 2009. World music- influenced indie band Fool’s Gold will support the band for the duration of the tour. The band will be touring their new album, I’m With You; the first single, ‘The Adventures of Raindance Maggie’, is out now.

N ot for nothing is Skye often dubbed Scotland in miniature. Stunning and serene in equal measure, next month sees a collection of artists bring the island to life. Bonnie Boat (10 Sep) allows visitors and locals alike the chance to walk in Skye while listening to Celestial Skye, a purpose- built soundscape composed by artists Walker & Bromwich and inspired by poets, musicians, fisherman and locals. A day of walks, performances and radio will be accompanied by a large fête at the harbour in Portree, complete with dance, film,
exhibitions, workshops and more. While the Celeste sailing boat broadcasts the works, songs and stories collected by Zoe Walker and Neil Bromwich. Better still, visitors can enjoy the on-off broadcast on portable devices as they walk along some of Skye’s most picturesque paths, including the Scorrybreac, offering stunning views of Ben Tianavaig.
