For her first major solo show in the UK, Aberdeen-born artist Ewan explores notions of silence and protest by taking historical objects, images and sounds and rendering them ‘active’ through use. Her ongoing interest in radical histories and Dundee’s social heritage is reflected in the show’s title, which combines ‘brank’, the Scots word for the Scold’s Bride, used to silence and torture women, with ‘heckle’, in common usage now and thought to have originated in Dundee’s jute mills.
