BigPicture THE SALON PROJECT Fresh from his collaboration with Marc Almond and Mark Ravenhill on Fringe musical Ten Plagues, director Stewart Laing plunges audiences into the ambience and rituals of the 19th century salon in an ambitious new music theatre event. Created from extensive research into the culture, politics and lifestyles of the Golden Age of French society (1885–1915), the evening’s entertainment begins in the dressing rooms where audience members will don full period costume before repairing to the mirrored salon itself to engage the cast in conversation about 21st century thinking on science, art, medicine and music. Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, Mon 10–Sat 22 Oct. See preview, page 104.
