The UK’s most unlikely cultural venue, the Burgh Hall in Dunoon, will present ‘Robert Mapplethorpe –The Scottish Tour, an exhibition of radical photography by one of the most iconic and often controversial artists of the twentieth century, American, Robert Mapplethorpe. This is the first of three Scottish venues to host this important exhibition.

The Burgh Hall is the most unorthodox gallery on the ARTIST ROOMS tour and Dunoon’s most important civic building. It was built in 1874 with local funds and rescued from demolition in 2009 by the John McAslan Family Trust. A tireless group of volunteers have worked to return the Burgh Hall to the heart of the community as an arts-led venue. The Mapplethorpe exhibition further aligns the Burgh Hall with its cultural ambitions to exhibit world class art to local and new audiences. Drawn from the ARTIST ROOMS collection of contemporary art given to the nation by Anthony d’Offay, and presented as part of ARTIST ROOMS On Tour With the Art Fund.
