Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival springs into action with a healthy sprinkling of home-grown talent and a blossoming of national and international acts, all brought together over the 12 day festival which is firmly planted in the region’s cultural calendar . . . Highlights of the 2012 festival, which runs from Friday 25 May to Tuesday 5 June, include the celebrated Opera A La Carte present Mozart’s comic masterpiece Cosi Fan Tutte, The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, The Scottish Ensemble, The National Theatre of Scotland, Nutshell Theatre’s Fringe First winning piece The Allotment. Contemporary and Folk fans might want to look out for the Tim Kliphuis Trio, Rab Noakes and Allan Taylor, The Alastair Anderson Band and Michael Marra. There is also a chance to see the world premiere of Alan Reid’s new work The Gairdner’s Son a mix of music and story telling the life of local hero John Paul Jones.
