Polka Dot Punks’ Art and Poetry Cafe SUGGESTED BY TAWONA SITHOLE, POET

Born out of frustration at the lack of exhibition spaces and opportunities for emerging artists, Polka Dot Punks first popped up at Streetland Festival 2011. Founders Lorna Callery and Gillian Caughey are ‘curators with a cause’, promoting affordable contemporary art and design in welcoming, quirky spaces in and around Glasgow. Always working hard to make each event unique, the Punks are already making a significant impact on the cultural scene. At Glasgow’s West End Festival, their Art & Poetry Café offers exciting new artwork from a range of local artists and designer-makers, along with the chance to have a poet perform work specifically to you at your table while you grab some lunch, or other refreshments. Polka Dot Punks Art and Poetry Café, Hillhead Book Club, Glasgow, Sat 9 Jun. Tawona launches his new book of poetry at Seeds of Thought, CCA, Glasgow, Thu 31 May.
