The People’s Tower
CHOSEN BY IAN SMITH, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF MISCHIEF LA BAS I saw a version of this gig by French artist Olivier Grossetete (bighead?) down in Ayr a few weeks ago, and there’s something very satisfying about getting loads of people to make a massive architectural sculpture, and then, after admiring it, letting them smash it all up. You might see it as a massive game of Jenga, a Tower of Babel, extreme Lego or just a great opportunity for a harmless riot of your own. The kids loved it. Personally I imagined the word ‘BANK’ inscribed on the side, with Edward Woodward peering mournfully through the gaps.
