The word ‘creative’ doesn’t often conjure up a vision of science and technology, but Scotland has long been renowned for innovative ideas and what better year to shout about it than in the Year of f Creative Scotland.
Who created the world’s fi rst cloned mammal, Dolly the Sheep? And who was behind the fascinating mechanics of the world’s fi rst, and only, rotating boat lift, The Falkirk Wheel? Scotland, of f course! There are feats of science and technology to be seen across ss the country, from the Forth Rail Bridge in South Queensferry to Preston Mill and Phantassie Doocot in East Lothian.
See Scotland in a whole new light at one of four Camera Obscuras in Edinburgh, Kirriemuir, Dumfries and Cairngorm. DARE PROTOPLAY 10 - 12 August, 10am - 6pm Caird Hall & City Square, Dundee Original, innovative, creative and ground-breaking - four words which describe the digital games prototypes showcased at Dare Protoplay, the result of nine weeks of intense mentoring and development. But the really exciting part for you is that you get the chance to play and vote for the games. This year, the organisers have launched the Dare Indie Fest at the event which will focus on bringing together independent developers with top industry professionals in publishing and funding. FRINGE BY THE SEA 6–12 Aug, North Berwick There’s still time to make your way to the coast and enjoy the music, theatre and comedy delights served up at Fringe by the Sea.
EDINBURGH INTERACTIVE 9–11 Aug, Radisson Blu Hotel, Royal Mile Screenings of brand new video games, gameplay sessions, workshops and industry advice at the free public day on the 11th while the conference takes place on the 9th and 10th. CELEBRATION OF THE CENTURIES 11–12 Aug, Highlands Head back in time at the magnii cent Fort George for daring displays of combat skills, living history camp and a 1940’s big band to add to the fun.
