Edinburgh Friday Clubs Brian M vs McBunn: Keep It Hardstyle Show at District. 10 Aug, 10pm–5am. £10. Two of the UK’s biggest hardstyle DJs Brian M and McBunn (Bionic) keep it hard and fast for this Festival special. Support across three rooms includes The Revolution, Scott Duncan, Dark Rider, Shaun Mclean and more. Buddha Fridays at Opal Lounge. Weekly 9pm–3am. £5 before 11.30pm; £8 after. Funky beats and up-tempo club classics with live sax and percussion. Ceremony at Henry’s Cellar Bar. 10 Aug, 7pm–3am. £5. A mix of gigging and clubbing starting off with live music from Night Noise Team, Collar Up, Jordan Yorkston and other bands affiliated with Edinburgh-based pop label Permwhale Recordings, while from midnight the DJs take over with a techno soundtrack. Edinburgh’s long-running underground techno party. It’s Substance’s 50th party and to mark the occasion a special dual live performance from Bill Youngman and Neil Landstrumm aka The Destroyaz making their live UK debut mixing beats, bleeps, beat-boxing and freestyle rhymes. Detroit’s Rolando is an impressive second guest. See preview, page 95. XY at Cabaret Voltaire. 10 Aug, midnight–5am. £7 (£5). New house, electro and drum & bass night that promises a set entry price whoever the guest.

bETAMAX at Studio 24. 10 Aug, 11pm–5am. Free before 11.30pm; £5 (£4) after. Mutant disco, post punk, new wave and 2Tone night hosted by Chris FAST (FASTpunkclub) and Big Gus (the Go-Go). Joined by Her Royal Highness for a dose of live rock and guest DJ Andy Brown (Divorce/Remember Remember) for their first birthday party.

Edinburgh Saturday Clubs Baby Loves Disco at Electric Circus. Weekly 11am–1pm & 2–4pm. £8. Baby Loves Disco is a chance for kids aged 6 months–7 years (and their parents) to get their respective grooves on, alongside the chance to sample the delights of bubble machines, instruments and a Gymboree chillout zone, with face- painting and healthy snacks included. Bass Syndicate at Sneaky Pete’s. 11 Aug, 11pm–5am. Free before

midnight; £3 after. Bass Syndicate returns with a mix of bass heavy breaks, dubstep, electro and nu rave from G-Mac, Believe and guests. Party rockin’ sixth birthday special from the residents and special guest Simon Jackson. FREE Bears in the East at New Town Bar. 11 Aug, 10pm–2am. A men- only night for bears and their admirers to meet up with old friends or make new ones, organised by the BearScots.
