Comedy Susan Morrison’s Pick of the Fringe

As the Edinburgh Festival Fringe continues to expand, spreading its tentacles further than ever before (hell, they’ve even got a box office at Queen Street Station, for goodness sake), even normally reliable Glasgow venues aren’t safe from the invasion. This week The Stand continues its showcase of the best the big festival in the east has to offer, with acts introduced by the ever-reliable Susan Morrison, she of the diminutive stature and the huge obsession with the Titanic (the ship, not the film). The Stand, Glasgow, Thu 16 Aug.

Cats

Say what you like about Andrew Lloyd Webber but his musicals certainly have an uncanny staying power. It’s over thirty years since his show based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats opened in the West End of London, and its popularity shows no signs of waning. This production, by Dundee Schools Musical Theatre, is doubtless a smaller-scale affair, but no less crowd- pleasing. Dundee Rep, until Sat 18 Aug. 16–23 Aug 2012 THE LIST 109
