Company Get Comedy When did you start your job? Officially 2006 but I have been watching comedy since I was 13 and started as a flyerer in Edinburgh when I was 18. I was working for another comedy promoter and manager at 21 but It wasn’t until 2006 I had my own company, managed by own acts and started to promote my own shows.
So what does your job actually involve? Get Comedy represents a wide selection of UK and international acts who are constantly working all around the world. We also book comedy at music festivals like Bestival, Rockness, Camp Bestival, Snowbombing and Festival No 6, and we are now responsible for the world’s best (and only) Alpine comedy festival, Altitude.
We also have comedy clubs throughout the UK and
in Europe, book numerous corporate shows and play a prominent role in the Southbank Festival and the Camden Crawl.
Best / Worst Aspects? Best – I get to work with and watch some of the best comedians in the world, week in week out. Worst – The best comedians in the world are often the least organized people in the world and it’s my job to sort their shows and lives out!
Looking back, what advice would you give to a young Brett at the start of his career? DON’T DO IT! You will never get your life back! No seriously, you have to be prepared for the first couple of years to be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Looking after people’s lives and careers comes with a lot of pressure and you must be prepared for the low points as well as the highs..
and finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in 2012? New Year’s Eve.
