But it’s not as stuffy as it sounds: the man in question is the inimitable David Byrne, whose new book, How Music Works, has just been published. He heads up a bumper crop of things to look forward to this autumn (see preview, page 26). Also in this issue, Mark Fisher gives a round-up of the debate that continues to build around Creative Scotland (page 12). Several months after the organisation first announced changes to the way it’ll be funding some of Scotland’s top arts organisations, questions and criticisms are still making the headlines. But it’s not all doom and gloom: the venue landscape is shifting once again and there are a handful of intriguing new places opening up, take a look at our guides on page 85 and 92 for some suggestions of new haunts.
