DANCE Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty

MUSIC Rodriguez

Bourne wraps up his trilogy of Tchaikovsky-scored productions, following Nutcracker! in 1992 and his famous 1995 adaptation of Swan Lake. Taking inspiration from Marius Petipa’s 1890 ballet, this new version of the famous folk tale makes the most of that period’s gothic sensibilities, before transplanting the heroine into a more contemporary setting at the end of her century-long slumber. See preview, page 105. Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Tue 27 Nov–Thu 1 Dec. All but forgotten during his short-lived 1960s heyday, political folk artist Sixto Rodriguez has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity this year thanks to documentary Searching for Sugar Man. See preview, page 76. Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Thu 25 Nov.
