FLANNERY O’KAFKA Glasgow-based photographer Andrea uses the alter ego flannery o’kafka for what she terms ‘melancholy merry- making’. Her work is darkly comedic and intentionally sentimental often likened to stills from a film. Largely self-taught, her portraits are raw and intuitive, inspired by the mysteries children hide in youth and their ability

to ignore the lens of a camera. Her first series of ‘Children in Literature: pre-madness’ is part of Glasgow’s Street Level Photoworks’ seventh Open Exhibition showing Sat 15 Dec-Sun 3 Feb. This mother-of-five, raising a family her entire adult life, returned to a

teenage obsession with photography and image-making in March of 2011. Honest and warm, if often irreverent, Andrea documents her daily life and ‘making’ process on her online photo diary with a mix of family snapshots, portraits, and commercial/editorial work. flanneryokafka.blogspot.co.uk thisiscentralstation.com
