SIMON MUNNERY: FYLM-MAKKER A new, highly inventive live show from comedian Simon Munnery. Getting its first outing at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, Fylm-Makker now comes to Glasgow as part of a UK-wide tour. It’s an innovative mix of music, animation, stand- up and live projection with plenty of surreal flights of fancy (as is Munnery’s trademark). GFT, Mon 18 Feb.
THE LEGEND OF KASPAR HAUSER A madcap, surreal western inspired by the story of a 19th century Bavarian boy who grew up in complete isolation. This lo-fi, black and white, b-movie homage features alien spacecraft and cult indie actor Vincent Gallo in not one but two roles. Described as ‘completely bonkers’ and ‘wilfully obtuse’, it’s a must see for fans of off- the-wall cinema. GFT, Tue 19 Feb.
NEIGHBOURING SOUNDS South America continues to produce some of the most exciting films of recent years. This debut feature from film critic Kleber Mendonca Filho follows the inhabitants of a block of flats in a Brazil seaside resort. A formally daring, anxiety- inducing slice of cinema that has been compared to the work of Michael Haneke. One for arthouse aficionados. GFT, Tue 19 & Wed 20 Feb.

THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES
A documentary capturing the trials and tribulations of four indie game developers as they attempt to realise their lifelong dreams. The first documentary ever made about video game developers, it sheds light on these 21st century creative minds. Indie Game comes to Glasgow having gained top reviews from film festivals across the world. GFT, Tue 19 Feb; CCA, Fri 22 Feb.
Carl Dreyer’s astonishing 1928 silent film is regarded as one of the most influential in cinema history with an unrivalled performance by Maria Falconetti. This will be the first screening ever to take place in the majestic surroundings of Glasgow Cathedral and will be accompanied by a live score, including soprano, church organ and electronics by composer Irene Buckley. Glasgow Cathedral, Sat 23 Feb. We don’t believe anyone’s had enough of Ryan Gosling just yet. Here he teams up for a second time with Derek Cianfrance (director of Blue Valentine) and Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper, for a story of a motorcycle stunt driver who becomes wrapped up in the criminal world in an attempt to provide for his new born son. THE LOOK OF LOVE MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
FrightFest goes from strength to strength and this year boasts impressive guests including Hostel creator and Tarantino collaborator Eli Roth, who’ll be in town for the screening of his new film Aftershock. Written by and starring Roth, it’s about a group of travellers caught in a nightclub in Chile when an earthquake hits. GFT, Sat 23 Feb. Prolific British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom gathers an all-star British cast for this hotly- tipped biopic about eccentric London porn baron and property magnate Paul Raymond. Steve Coogan takes the lead role, with support from Imogen Poots, Stephen Fry, Anna Friel and Matt Lucas. It comes to Glasgow after its premiere at Sundance, with expectations running high. GFT, Fri 15 Feb, Cineworld Renfrew St, Sat 16 Feb. Buffy creator and Avengers Assemble director Joss Whedon takes a break from blockbusters to direct this modern version of Shakespeare’s comedy. Shot in black and white over 12 days at Whedon’s home in Santa Monica, it stars Amy Acker, Nathan Fillion, Alex Denisof and Jillian Morgese as the squabbling, bantering couples. The Glasgow screening is the UK debut and GFF’s closing gala movie. GFT, Sun 24 Feb.
