Verdi and Wagner Gala with Scottish Opera

Two of the greatest ever opera composers celebrate their bicentenaries in 2013. Both born in 1813, Verdi and Wagner didn’t have much to do with each other when alive, but will be to the fore together this year, including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s magnificent tribute. French operas, Massenet’s Werther hasn’t been staged in Scotland for almost 20 years. It’s the old story of obsessive love and the heartbreak that comes along with it in a new production by Pia Furtado, set in the early 1900s.
