JOAN EARDLEY Fifty years after the death at just 42 of one of Scotland’s favourite painters, the Scottish Gallery is hosting the first retrospective of Joan Eardley’s work since 2007. On show is a range of art works from action painting and seascapes to studies of children in the slums of Glasgow, as well as rare pieces made in France and Italy. After seeing this exhibition, the Financial Times called Eardley ‘the greatest child portraitist since Soutine’. The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, until Sat 27 Apr.
