FEATURES Traverse 50 Summer Festivals

16 MAY 12 JUN 2013 | LIST.CO.UK SHOPPING & FASHION

O ur Around Town and LGBT editor Lauren Mayberry leaves us this issue, but her name is unlikely to be absent from our pages for too long. She’s off to concentrate on her success with the band Chvrches who, as we speak, are

preparing for a summer of festival-going, starting with T in the Park in July.

We’ve become a bit festival-obsessed at The List these past few weeks. Scotland is teeming with them in the next few months, there are so many that even each letter of the alphabet wasn’t enough to cover them all (see our A-Z guide, page 19). Also this issue the Traverse Theatre celebrates its 50th birthday. Find out about their colourful history (including an onstage stabbing, 6ft costumes of genitalia and an obscenity complaint in the House of Commons) on page 13.

SUMMER FESTIVALS Ah, the joy of the festival season. No, not that colossal happening that takes over the capital every August (although we’re looking forward to that too) we’re talking about those annual events that give us an opportunity to over-indulge in the art forms of our choice, in venues set apart from our daily lives, with people who share our passion for whatever we’re there to experience. Sound like something to get excited about? Of course it does read on from page 19.

TRAVERSE 50 As Scotland’s new writing theatre marks a venerable five decades on the scene, we look back at how it has kept pace with the times over the last 50 years. BYZANTIUM 19 years after Interview with a Vampire, director Neil Jordan reacquaints himself with the immortality, bloodlust and ennui that comes with being a creature of the night.

CORRECTION The photographs in last issue’s Arika feature should have been credited as follows: Terre Thaemlitz, photographed by Ruthie Singer-Decapite; Daniel Carter, photographed by John Rogers; (M)IMOSA, photographed by Paula Court. In addition, the Episode 5 club dates should have read Fri 24 May, not April. The List apologises for any confusion caused.
