HOW DID YOU GET THAT JOB?

Name Cheap Picasso Job title DJ and Promoter

Company Gasoline Dance Machine

When did you start your job? We started the club GDM in October 2011 at Cabaret Voltaire and have been DJing since 2010.

So what does your job actually involve? The DJ side mainly involves hunting for tunes and keeping our sets fun and fresh. The promotion side can involve anything from dealing with agents, contracts, venues, PR material and distribution, press releases, hotels, airlines and keeping an eye on up and coming artists. We also love to cook for our DJs and artists, if there is time, making sure they have a great time while here and in one case tucking a DJ into bed, alone.

Best / Worst Aspects? Best: meeting like-minded people from all over the world and hearing great music from great DJ’s. Worst: working on a Sunday after playing until 5 in the morning. Looking back, what advice would you give to a young DJ or promoter at the start of their career? Put the bottle of rum down.

and finally . . what has been your biggest achievement in 2013? Playing alongside three of our favourite producers/DJs in the first half of the year and taking our night into another city on 15 Jun (Isaac Tichauer at Saint Judes, Glasgow). We have met some great friends from the French Express record label this year and the relationship is only getting stronger. Also, being asked to play Beacons Festival is a particularly exciting time! The rest of the year is shaping up to be tasty too.
