LIVE MUSIC EVENT GLASGOW SHOW Glasgow Green, Sat 20 & Sun 21 Jul

As TV talent shows hurtle towards the final, all eyes are on the top prize. Yet as the likes of Olly Murs and One Direction have demonstrated, being a ‘loser’ can lead to a very fruitful career.

For the past two years, Jedward has played the Glasgow Show and proved that coming sixth in the X Factor is no barrier to entertaining the crowds. Now, another X Factor contestant who failed to procure the public vote, but went on to win them over in her own way, is headed for the annual Glasgow shindig.

In possession of powerful vocals that stopped the judges in their tracks, when she took to the audition stage as a shy 16-year-old, Amelia Lily eventually came third in the TV show. But has since gone on to achieve chart success with tracks such as ‘You Bring Me Joy’.

‘You don’t necessarily need to win,’ agrees Lily, ‘but I think it all depends on what kind of person you are and if you want it enough. You’ve got to be able to work 24/7 to be successful.’

Lily’s recent UK performances, supporting Girls Aloud’s farewell tour, brought her to Glasgow for three nights where she experienced an audience second to none. Back in the city, to take part in the popular weekend of live music, stunt teams and family activities, she’s looking forward to a similar reaction.

‘I went with Girls Aloud to every city on their tour, and the three nights in Glasgow had by far the best crowds,’ says Lily. ‘Every night they never failed to make me feel welcome and get involved in the show. I’m so excited to get back there for the Glasgow Show, and hopefully I’ll get the same response.’ (Kelly Apter)
