The Derry-Londonderry City of Culture programme has inspired work (pictured above) to be shown at the Mackintosh Museum at Glasgow School of Art this October. The Colm Cille’s Spiral project is a re-imagination of the legacy of the sixth century Irish monk, presented through a series of contemporary art and dialogues with artists throughout the UK. Look out for it from Sat 12 Oct–Fri 1 Nov. It’s with a tear i rmly in our eye that we say bye bye to Fence Records, as they announced it’s game over this month. The Peter Mullan-starring movie Sunshine on Leith is to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Mon 9 Sep. Shot on location in Edinburgh and Glasgow the i lm, featuring the songs of The Proclaimers, will be on general release in the UK from Fri 4 Oct. The world’s oldest Gaelic organisation has announced that the Royal National Mod will be held in Paisley this year, for the i rst time in its 121 year history. The event, which runs Fri 11–Sat 19 Oct, celebrates Gaelic music, dance, drama, arts and literature.
We’re delighted that Kirsty Logan, The List’s books and LGBT editor has been awarded the inaugural Dr. Gavin Wallace Fellowship. As part of the award she will develop a new piece of writing, titled A Portable Shelter about ‘Scottish folktales, family relationships, loss and the sea.’

A theatre production with international l avour, award-winning director Cora Bissett (RoadKill, Whatever Gets You Through the Night, Glasgow Girls) joins playwright Kieran Hurley (BEATS, Chalk Farm) and a team of talent from the dance, theatre and circus worlds to create a cross-form piece, which will get its i rst outing at Tramway.

Described as ‘part Twenty Twelve, part Drop The Dead Donkey’, it promises live theatre, i lmed news reports and on-line content. We like it already.
