WEB-O-SPHERE DIGITAL DESPATCHES FOR THE TECHNOPHOBIC

We’re big fans of the EDL here at List HQ. No, not those guys we’re talking about the English Disco Lovers, a group of dancefloor dons and divas who want to reclaim those three letters from the far right political organisation. Their latest project is a joint effort with Brighton house outfit Let the Machines do the Work together, they’ve come up with highly danceable single ‘Let Me Be the One’. You can watch the skinhead-baiting video at bit.ly/ EDiscoL. We acknowledge that there’s a very serious element to the story of two armed men who broke into a Berwick-Upon-Tweed cafe for food last week, but we struggled to suppress a smile at theguardian. com’s headline: ‘Quiche thieves in five-hour police stand-off’. The comments, of course, turned into a pun frenzy our favourites were ‘I love it when a flan comes together’ and ‘Give quiche a chance’.

FAUX SHOW Re: The Great Hip Hop Hoax (● see review, page 53) I wish to point out Chris Rock, producer at Island Records, was taken in by Silibil N’ Brains. A more noteworthy mention than James from Busted. Whilst you should be commended for blogging on this i lm and your views are as a valid as the next person’s, I i nd the lack of research into the scale of the ‘blag’ pulled off by these two undermined by it. SEEING STARS Re: The List has a new star-rating system too, and it’s better than the Evening News’s So you guys gave my show, The I Hate Children Children’s Show, four stars. But according to your new system that equates to 13.6 stars, which would be rounded up to 14 stars. I am excited. I am going to print up a bunch of 14-star reviews from The List right now. You’re right there won’t be room for anyone else’s reviews. You guys are geniuses. Comment posted by Paul Nathan on list.co.uk

You’ll have no doubt already heard that Peter Capaldi is going to be the new Doctor Who. With that in mind, we’ve spent some time trawling the web for the best Malcolm Tucker / Timelord mashups. The best of the bunch is, without a doubt, a trailer mash- up featuring the newly-appointed Doctor holding forth on ‘fuckin’ time travel’ and ‘hordes of fuckin’ robots’ over some Dalek footage (bit.ly/tuckerwho). Enjoy.

My partner’s childhood claim to fame as an extra in Women Talking Dirty = he gets taunted whenever we walk down The Mound!

@DayInSpace Watching Sword of Honour (featuring Daniel Craig) and the flat we were in on Leslie Place was bombed by the Luftwaffe.

Various bits of St Stephen’s Street in Stockbridge and Calton Hill in ITV’s North and South.

@puregreathunter I never walk down the Playfair Steps without thinking about Gerda Stevenson in Margaret Tait’s Blue Black Permanent.

@GuysRestaurant Hey @thelistmagazine. How about Cochrane Street just off George Square (Glasgow) for World War Z?

When I was a teenager a guy tried to get me back to his by saying his mum’s house was the Shallow Grave flat. #romance

The Cameo cinema in French animation The Illusionist. Very odd when seeing it in the Cameo itself . . . I think I concentrated on the background more than what was happening in the foreground! Lovely film.

Juliet Tweedie Kind of a terrible film, but Glasgow looked beautiful in Not Another Happy Ending!

Laura Sutherland Gardner Street, Partick in The Angels’ Share.
