Halloween: By Night
The National Galleries of Scotland continue their By Night series with an appropriately timed event for All Hallows Eve—a unique nocturnal performance at the Scottish National Gallery by Eccentronic Research Council ft Maxine Peake. The group—a self-styled collective of ‘artists, sound designers, experimental pop performers, writer and poets’ – make their Scottish live debut in spectacular fashion, performing their critically acclaimed concept album 1612 Underture. The album takes as its foundation, the story of the Pendle Witches Trials of the early 17th century, through which local women were executed for their supposed involvement in the black arts. The group conjure up vivid, electronic soundscapes as accompaniment to Maxine Peake’s breath-taking prose poem.
