WEB-O-SPHERE DIGITAL DESPATCHES FOR THE TECHNOPHOBIC

The comments section of list.co.uk was built with a few specific purposes in mind: to allow people to offer comment or criticism on our articles, for example, or to deliver reviews of their own, or even to alert us to occasional inaccuracies in our listings. A few users this month have opened our eyes to possibilities we didn’t even consider for cheeky wee del, it’s a place to share some personal moments while reviewing The Toby Jug: ‘Visited the toby jug 2nite bcoz i hadnt previously indulged in city centre pubs & clubs due 2 my age & self confidence after split from previous gf which left me hurt & recluseful . . . For Fiona Macdonald, it’s a place to politely reassert one’s vegetarian values on an article about rearing venison: ‘I think it’s sad to kill animals for food and if there is stress to the animals then it can never be a good idea. Sorry to disagree . . . No I’m not sorry. I love animals and their freedom and life is as important as mine. I love and I don’t eat them.’ And,

for the excellently named Yolo Swaggins, it’s a place to get passionate about architectural history: ‘Please can somebody tell me when the oldest building on Alloa High Street was built! Stop fannying around and hop to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ Meanwhile, over on our

Facebook page, Susan Paterson bemoaned an actor’s corruption by association with Irvine Welsh adaptation Filth: ‘Oh no, the lovely James McAvoy just isn’t the right actor for this part. I’ll watch it anyway but I’m disappointed with the casting.’ An important lesson learnt about placing actors on pedestals, there.

REMEMBERING HEANEY Re: Peggy Hughes remembers Seamus Heaney (716) Very moved by this short piece. I’ve been listening to him reading Beowulf while I’ve been doing the ironing, and it was afterwards, reading this, that I found myself crying. His death must feel like a personal loss to so many people in the world. Thank you for writing it. Comment posted by Mog Ball FILTHY LANGUAGE Re: Filth (●●●●●, 716) ‘Jon S Baird’s i lm is set in an Edinburgh that feels more like the 1990s than the 21st century but that may all be part of the i lm’s demented, hallucinatory sensibility.’ IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE 90S YOU BLOODY JOBBIE. THE QUESTION

WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE FOR NOV 5 CELEBRATIONS? We ask the question, you give the answer. Join in on Twitter @thelistmagazine and Facebook

@UllapoolBookFes Definitely Ullapool. Great fireworks, huge bonfire, plus proper burgers or veggie- burgers, home-made lentil soup, cakes.

Niki Boyle As far as I’m aware there’s no official display on around Arthur’s Seat, but it’s a great spot to watch fireworks going off elsewhere around the city. Calton Hill too.

@CraigMcKeee @Westbeer on the green, approach the aggressive council man and he will open the fence for you. Shhhh! It’s a secret.

@Westbeer There is ONLY one place. The WEST beer garden. Hot Sausages. Cold Beer. Not that we are biased or anything :) @weescottishmum Porty beach is always packed with families doing their own & loads of bonfires too, nice atmosphere :-)

@TheBazBowski Easterhouse.

Brendan Miles Top of Braid Hill is good for a panorama of the city. Unless I’m the one setting off the fireworks of course in which case the Fire Brigade ended up having to put out a fire.

Sarah Reddie Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline they throw an organised display every year with Boogie from Forth One doing the countdown and music. It’s a truly fantastic show and makes me feel like a little girl again!

@B0MBSKARE Parliament.
