CLUBS 5 REASONS

TO GO TO: THE SCOTTISH SOULFUL WEEKENDER 1 The Line-Up Back for its third year, 2013’s Scottish Soulful Weekender boasts over 50 top disco, soul, funk and house DJs. Names like Fish Go Deep, DJ Spinna, Studio 54’s Nicky Siano, Horse Meat Disco, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jocelyn Brown, Oliver Cheatham and many more will be performing for your pleasure. Several are putting in multiple sets or SSW exclusives. 2 The Vibes Don’t just listen to us here’s a few quotes from DJs who’ve played at the previous Scottish Soul Weekenders. ‘It’s been quite a while since I’ve been to such an intimate and friendly weekender. The energy was really positive, the crowd well up for it, the rooms and sound systems were perfect,’ according to Motor City Drum Ensemble; ‘Intimate soul, jazz-funk, boogie, R&B and house rooms dotted around a beautiful old hotel. The vibe: amazing. Everyone rocking till the break of dawn,’ said Drizabone Soul Family. 3 The Location The Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries has good connections via car, train or coach (there will be special services, see the website for more info). The venue has four music rooms and you can even stay there for the most convenient accommodation you could ever want. And the bar’s open until 7am result! 4 The Party There’s something about the commitment and intimacy of a weekender that makes it something special, a unique event where you really get to know your fellow clubbers including meet and greet sessions at Broon’s Bar just 200 yards from the Cairndale Hotel. 5 The Organiser? Yogi Haughton is the man behind the SSW and one of the most respected DJs in Scotland. What this man doesn’t know about soul, funk and house just isn’t worth knowing, so you’re in safe hands.
