HOTTEST RESTAURANTS

HITTING THE MARK Then there are our Hitlists. For each year’s guide we set out with the aim of making a fresh visit to every restaurant worth knowing about in the two cities. This breadth of coverage, along with our 20-year experience of the scene and the fact that all venues are visited incognito by our team of experienced local reviewers means we’re very well placed to make objective choices about the eating experiences that truly stand out from the crowd. Reviewers are asked to pick out the most memorable meals from the venues they visit, and these nominations are then discussed with our editors to select Hitlists our independent pick of the best in each section of the guide.

The concept of Hitlists was introduced for the 5th edition of the Eating & Drinking Guide back in 1998 with a few familiar names appearing in those lists including Edinburgh’s Café St Honoré, Kalpna, The Shore and Smokestack, and Glasgwegian favourites such as Balbir’s, Café Gandolfi , Mother India, La Parmigiana, Two Fat Ladies and the Ubiquitous Chip.

In 2012 a further concept, Tiplists, was introduced to provide useful recommendations across a wide range of eating and drinking-related topics such as outdoor dining, BYOB and dining with Kids & Families. There are even suggestions of the best places for Taking the Dog, as well as a sympathetic Tiplist of ‘Best Places to Eat Hidden by the Edinburgh Tramworks’. g
