Red Note: Noisy Nights Yes, they’re back! It’s

always great fun hearing the new pieces of music which have been composed in response to the Red Note Ensemble’s call for scores using specific instrumentation. This time, the lineup is two cellos and a synthesiser. Nothing is more than five minutes, so expect no shortage of variety. Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, Mon 3 Mar.

Composition Marathon More new music, this time

inspired by New York-based collective, Bang On A Can. It’s year three of an innovative project which challenges ten composers to write a piece for small ensemble in the space of 24 hours between commission and professional performance. The Arches, Glasgow, Sun 9 Mar.

Hilliard Ensemble Celebrating 40 years as the

most pioneering vocal group of its kind, the quartet of male voices (pictured, above) two tenors, counter-tenor and baritone bring their Officium programme to Scotland. A unique collaboration with Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek, it was a recording sensation of the 90s. Now’s a great chance to hear it live.
