DENNIS J REINMÜLLER Dennis J Reinmüller graduated from ECA last year. He is exhibiting at Glasgow International, and has been shortlisted for the Catlin Prize
What’s been happening since you left ECA?
I did a group show at the Whisky Bond in Glasgow, then a solo show at Summerhall, which was great. The show itself was a bit depressing, but in a good way – is that possible? Then RSA New Contemporaries, and then the Catlin Prize shortlist. I also held a life-drawing class, which was actually a performance but the attendees didn’t know. That was quite fun. And of course Glasgow International. What does the Catlin shortlisting mean to you?
The Catlin is fantastic – it’s great that it’s a show in London and Catlin give support both financially and curatorially. I’m putting all I’ve got into it. I think after you’ve seen the show you’ll need therapy. We could all go together for group therapy – maybe I should offer that to people. Let’s all go on group therapy together.
What’s your work all about? It’s about what life means to me currently. At the same time, if the work just makes me laugh then that’s OK as well.
What shows are you looking forward to? GI, obviously – especially Reclaimed and Bedwyr Williams. Also Glasgow Open House – it’s such a fantastic idea to claim any space and do a show.
What’s next for you?
I’ve got three ideas I’m working on. I don’t have venues yet, but one is a drawing exhibition, then a mixture of sculpture, performance and mysticism – maybe that could be the group therapy we all go on. The last show is something I think could potentially end my career but I can’t say too much about that yet. I’m also offering a residency at djr-residency.org – three days, one sleeping bag, one laptray, £300. Bargain! TOBY PATERSON Generation kicks off its huge national programme celebrating the past 25 years of art in Scotland with this installation by Glasgow-based artist Toby Paterson. The show concentrates on Paterson’s work from the past four years, but has been tailored specifically for the site – throughout 2014 it will travel to Inverness, Peebles and Dumfries, with Paterson changing it slightly for each location. ■ Kirkcaldy Galleries, Fife, Sun 27 Apr to Sun 22 Jun.
