VISUAL ART Nathan Coley

Following his brief stint doing intimate, ‘spontaneous’ shows in London and Manchester earlier this year, the funkmeister general (together with his all-female backing band, 3RDEYEGIRL) is embarking upon a series of arena dates across the UK, including our own Glasgow Hydro. Tickets are all sold out, of course, but given the artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince’s propensity for playing unexpected smaller venues, we’d encourage avid fans to keep an eye on the city’s more limited-capacity venues on the night. See preview, page 79. The Hydro, Glasgow, Thu 22 May. Coley’s 2004 work The Lamp of Sacrifice, 286 Places of Worship, Edinburgh makes its Glasgow debut see preview, page 106. Coley also premieres a new work in Edinburgh see Big Picture, page 11. Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow, Fri 16 May–Sat 31 Jan; Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh, from Sat 17 May.
