JEANETTE LENNARTSSON

It is with great sadness that we note the death after a long illness of Jeanette Lennartsson who was the designer of The List from 1994–1997. Jeanette started work at The List

when she and her husband, Marc Lambert (now director of the Scottish Book Trust) moved to Edinburgh after living in Italy for some years. She had trained earlier in graphic design in London having left her native Sweden to work in Australia. Graphic design and the skilful mastery of typography require a sophisticated understanding of language and it was part of Jeanette’s many talents that she spoke and wrote English to a higher standard than many locals.

She approached the challenge of

designing each issue with a delightful combination of wit, imagination, intelligence and principle. Always equally happy to come up with ideas of her own or to develop suggestions from the editor, she realised that successful magazine design is a collaborative effort involving working together with others and having a clear grasp of how to engage with the readers. Working with Jeanette was a joy for all who were at The List in the 1990s. Her presence, energy and laughter sent a positive can-do attitude throughout the ofi ce no matter how pressurised things might be with tight deadlines or limited resources.

Jeanette went on from The List to join the staff at Edinburgh College of Art where many hundreds of students were able to develop their skills and learn about design thanks to her dedication and talent.

Jeanette will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and work with her and we send our deepest sympathy to her husband, Marc and their two daughters, Molly and Tilda. (Robin Hodge)
