I t’s that time of year again, folks: when we all breathe a collective sigh of relief / wistfulness that the Fringe is finally (almost) over though this year, we’re nostalgic about the Commonwealth Games too.

But there’s loads in store this autumn as well. As part of our Autumn Film Special, we look at Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch’s first ever film release, God Help the Girl (page 14). We’re also excited about Sin City 2 (page 17), the Dardenne brothers’ Two Days, One Night (page 15), a great roster of upcoming family films (page 20) and next year’s awards contenders (page 23).

Elsewhere, author David Mitchell spoke to us about his Booker-longlisted novel, The Bone Clocks (page 26), while Ali Smith’s How to be Both also on the longlist gets a five-star review (page 47). We preview this year’s hottest video game release, Destiny (page 32), and the East End Social’s Last Big Weekend (page 50, 69) puts a lovely musical full stop on what’s been one fantastic summer for Glasgow. And with only a few weeks left to go until the Independence Referendum, we take a look back at the lead-up over the last few years (page 24). Whether it’s aye or naw, we’ll see you in a month.
