HALLOWE’EN GIGS All slashed up and nowhere to go? We round up dark Hallowe’en music and club options

G ory gig options are in good supply this Hallowe’en. Fans of the tits + terror school of Dario Argento giallo horror movies can watch 70s Italian prog rock legends Goblin perform their live soundtrack to a screening of Suspiria (pictured) at SWG3 Warehouse. Which is probably where the Edinburgh slowcore band eagleowl would be too, if they weren’t dressing up for what used to be a traditional Hallowe’en transformation into Our Ladies of Sorrow - their kraut-goth- giallo tribute act. They’ll rise from the dead for the first time in four years, as part of Lost Map’s Hallowe’en Special, also featuring Tuff Love, Insect Heroes, CARBS and Archie Bronson Outfit. Meanwhile Zola Jesus, whose poker-straight black locks and middle-part were positively made for Hallowe’en, will be bringing her goth-pop to Stereo.

74 THE LIST 16 Oct–13 Nov 2014

Hallowe’en handily falls on a Friday this year, so night creatures can continue into the small hours with Hallowe’en clubnight specials from Pressure (with Dave Clarke, Boddika and an album launch for Slam), Nightrave (featuring Teki Latex and Joe Howe) or the excellent Hot Mess, who invite you to a ‘homo disco massacre’, with DJ Simon Eilbeck. (Claire Sawers) GLASGOW: Zola Jesus, Stereo; Goblin plays Suspiria, SWG3; Nightrave, La Cheetah; Pressure, The Arches.

EDINBURGH: Lost Map’s Hallowe’en Special, The Mash House; Hot Mess, the Annexe at the Liquid Room.
