Christmas at the Citizens always offers something a little different from the usual festive entertainment and this year is no exception. In the beautiful surroundings of the Citizens’ Victorian auditorium, not even the staunchest Scrooge will be able to resist the spirit of Christmas as Charles Dickens’ festive tale A Christmas Carol will be brought to life in a stage adaptation by Neil Bartlett. Christmas card scenes of carol singers, snowy streets, family firesides, Christmas dinners and a spine-tingling tale will come together with a sprinkling of theatrical magic to tell the most festive story of them all.

Directed by Artistic Director Dominic Hill, whose ‘highly imaginative, transfixing productions’ (Daily Telegraph) have been thrilling audiences and breathing life into classic texts, the Citizens’ production of A Christmas Carol will warm even the coldest of hearts and leave all rejoicing in the Christmas spirit. As night falls, follow a magical trail of light through the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Walk along a path illuminated by fantastic effects and experience the unfamiliar sights and sounds of the Garden after dark.

See the Victorian Palm House lit superbly against the evening sky, enjoy the sparkle of lights over the Pond, play with installations which cast colour and shadow on the landscape before making your way to a finale of lights on Inverleith House lawn, overlooking the Edinburgh skyline at night. Night in the Garden has been created by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Edinburgh-based Unique Events and Black Light in association with Scottish light artist Malcolm Innes and his colleague Euan Winton from Edinburgh Napier University. It is part of Homecoming Scotland 2014.
