HOTTEST RESTAURANTS EATING UP THE CITIES

Covering nearly 1000 restaurants every year takes some effort, not least from the 70-plus experienced local reviewers who head out to eat meals and write up reviews on our behalf. We make sure we go back to every venue every year, because things can move on and while some places get better, others head in other directions. At each venue we visit anonymously, to ensure our reviewers aren’t accorded any special treatment, and we aim to eat a typical meal. While we check our information carefully with each restaurant to make sure the facts and gures are as up to date as they can be, we don’t share our reviews with any establishment before we go to press. No special favours either in the write-ups or in our Hitlist selections are given to advertisers or commercial partners. All bars, restaurants and cafes are given the same opportunity to impress, whether a small neighbourhood bistro or the big-budget new opening in the centre of town. Then, once the guide is out, we’re out and about again instantly, keeping track of the new openings and changes. There are always plenty of these: we currently reckon that around 150 places of note appear each year across Edinburgh and Glasgow. That equates to one new opening every two-and-a-half days across the two cities. These new openings appear on our website, are covered in each issue of The List magazine and are detailed in the Eating & Drinking Guide when it appears each April.
