FUNBOX: PIRATES AND PRINCESSES Re-invention of kiddies’ favourite

The Singing Kettle may have boiled for the last time, but fans of the sing-along sensation won’t have to wait long for their i x of songs, laughs and dressing up.

Comprised of former Singing Kettle personnel Gary, Kevin and Anya Funbox is a brand new company dedicated to entertaining the wee ones. But while the name has changed, and there’s a whole new rhyme to learn (‘You and me, turn the key . . . open the locks of the funbox’), the team is wise enough to know if it ain’t broke, don’t i x it for now.

‘It would be a little tricky to stray too far from the formula,’ says Funboxer Kevin Macleod, ‘certainly to begin with. We want our fans to stay with us, so change will need to be gradual. We want to carry on the element of traditional playground songs and rhymes that were the cornerstones previously, and maintain a dei nite Scottish l avour. Where the shows will hopefully develop and l ourish is with new songs, new silliness and new characters.’ (Kelly Apter) SECC, Glasgow, Sun 1 Mar, then touring.
