N T S G E T S R E A DY TO R O C KV I L L A The National Theatre of Scotland has moved into spanking new permanent headquarters in the Speirs Wharf regeneration area of Glasgow. Rockvilla, as it’s to be known, has been described as ‘an engine room for Scottish Theatre’ on the banks of the Forth and Clyde canal in Glasgow. Designed by Hoskins Architects, the new space allows the company to house all its rehearsal and production activity under one roof.

G O O D BY E TO G AY F I E L D Gayi eld Creative Spaces in Edinburgh, which offered workshops, studios and galleries to individuals and organisations, closed its buildings in January. Though the Gayi eld Square premises will no longer be used for creative purposes, the company itself will feature archival work on its website, and will continue as a facilitating resource for creative talents in Edinburgh and beyond.

STA N Z A STA N D I N G ST R O N G AT 2 0 StAnza Scotland’s poetry festival in St Andrews has launched its 2017 programme. The 20th edition of the festival features poets such as John Agard, Jackie Kay, Patience Agbabi, Robert Crawford and Jacques Darras, while the themes of this year’s event are ‘The Heights of Poetry’ and ‘On the Road’.

P I EC E S O F PAO LOZ Z I A public symposium is being held on what to do with the remains of a mosaic by artist, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. The pieces once graced Tottenham Court Road underground station in central London, but after their removal, less than half of the pieces were saved. Now the public is being asked to contribute their views on what to do with them, in a meeting at the Edinburgh College of Art in February.

T H E D U N G EO N D I G S D E E P Edinburgh Dungeon has invested over £500,000 on construction at its Market Street site, for a new show opening in February. The work started in

November 2016, and will make way for 11 live-actor shows, 360-degree theatre sets and two rides. Watch out for more announcements soon.

G SA G O E S N O R T H Glasgow School of Art has ofi cially launched a new campus in Forres. The Highlands and Islands Creative Campus is located at Blair Steading on the Altyre Estate in Moray. It will be used as a base for GSA’s Institute of Design Innovation.

SWA N KY N EW M AC S O R L E Y ’S Glasgow pub and music venue MacSorley’s has closed temporarily for a £250,000 refurbishment. The new venue will include bespoke artwork from Glasgow-based artists Social Recluse. It is expected that MacSorley’s will continue offering live music.

N EW L E AS E O F L E I T H L I F E A campaign to revive the Leith Theatre is gaining traction. Spearheaded by Irvine Welsh, the project needs £250,000 to revamp the building and transform it into an arts venue.
