FIGHTING THE BLAZE Firei ghters remained on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street for several days after a blaze broke out in the Victoria nightclub on Thu 22 Mar. Streets were shut as buildings were assessed for safety, including the Cineworld on Renfrew Street.

ART ABOUT TOWN

The Edinburgh Art Festival has announced its 2018 exhibition programme, including treats like Tacita Dean at the Fruitmarket Gallery and Lucy Skaer at Talbot Rice Gallery. The full EAF events programme will be released later this spring.

LEITHLATE NO MORE Annual arts festival LeithLate has sadly been cancelled in 2018. A highlight of North Edinburgh’s cultural calendar for seven years, the festival’s organisers no longer feel their current resources are sustainable for delivering a high- quality festival. They will be missed, but their inl uence will long be felt in Leith’s murals and colourful shutters.

EDG TURNS 25 The annual List Eating and Drinking Guide celebrates its 25th birthday this year. We’re hard at work on it at the moment, but look out for the new guides on Wed 18 Apr, and follow all the award-winners, hitlisted restaurants and more at #listeatdrink. Plus, you can get £3 off a 2018 guide at Waterstones turn to page 16 to i nd out more.

TURNING BACK THE CLOCK The Edinburgh International Film Festival is busily preparing for its next launch (Wed 23 May), but we’ve already got details of the retrospective strand this year. Time of the Signs: Chasing the American Zeitgest is inspired by Trump’s America and will focus on the American i lms of the 1990s.

BROKEN BRET We were super psyched about Flight of the Conchords Hydro date in March until Bret went and broke his hand by falling down the stairs. But they haven’t kept us waiting too long: the duo have rescheduled their postponed dates already, and they’ll be returning to the Hydro on Mon 18 Jun.

BILL’S COMING TO TOWN We missed him at the Isle of Dogs launch at GFF back in February, but Bill Murray (left) is making a trip to Scotland in 2018 after all. He’ll be heading to the Edinburgh Festival Theatre on Mon 18 Jun (whoops, Conchords clash) for a show with cellist Jan Vogler and friends.
