Six by Nico

Spring is sprung (finally) and with it comes a bunch of new openings in Edinburgh. The city’s third Chop House landed in Bruntsfield at the end of March, promising the same focus on the best of British dry-aged beef as its sister venues, all wrapped up in a high-end, see- and-be-seen venue. It joins Black

Ivy (the splashy refurb of the old Links Hotel) plus a planned new opening for Tom Kitchin later this year, surely this makes Bruntsfield the new hot dining destination? Meanwhile, in the city centre, Glasgow import Six by Nico looks set to sell out The Chippy, their first six-week, six-course tasting menu (a brilliant preview video can only have helped). The Fishmarket is coming to Newhaven soon a collab between Ondine’s Roy Brett and Welch’s Fishmongers. With names like that, of course the focus is on seafood expect spankingly fresh fish in a casual environment.

News to nibble on

The tragic fire at Cameron House last December has meant an extended closure for its restaurant and Martin Wishart’s with talented kitchen staff taking gigs elsewhere, including former head chef Gary Townsend. Recently installed as head chef at 3AA rosette Hotel du Vin Bistro at One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow, he brings his ‘classical French style with a modern twist’. We visited recently to try his new menu see our review at list.co.uk/food. Cafezique in Glasgow have changed their old Delizique venue into Gather by Zique, with a focus on modern European cuisine, utilising produce from the Trossachs farm run by owner Mhairi Taylor’s husband Dick Lewis. Another favourite Glasgow spot, Singl-end, is adding to their excellent Garnethill café-bakery with another branch due to open soon on John Street in the Merchant City. For every gain there’s always a loss Babu Bombay Street Kitchen is set to close their spot near Blythswood Square. Fans can still catch them at Platform at Argyle St Arches and other food gatherings.
