THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Edinburgh plays a starring role in the latest Marvel Blockbuster

This spring’s third instalment of the Avengers saga and the 29th i lm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be particularly special for fans in Edinburgh, who can do a spot of local sightseeing while they watch. When will the mock-up kebab shop on Cockburn Street which Tony ‘Iron Man’ Stark (Robert Downey Jr) was spotted in last year pop up, for example, or how much of the city will we see during the battle Vision and Scarlet Witch (Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen) were involved with on the Grassmarket? And what about the large but well sealed-off green screen set that stood in Waverley Station for several weeks?

Away from our own local interest, there are great expectations of Marvel’s latest i lmed instalment, and not just in relation to its monstrous cast list. Directed by the Russo Brothers, who previously did an exceptional job of the second and third Captain America instalments The Winter Soldier and Civil War, it brings together nearly every Marvel hero introduced so far, from the spacebound Guardians of the Galaxy/Thor: Ragnarok contingent, to the opposing Avengers factions led by Iron Man and Chris Evans’ newly-bearded Captain America, to individual heroes including Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. (David Pollock) Avengers: Ini nity War is on general release from Fri 27 Apr.
