EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL POSTPONED In line with the UK Government and Scottish Government’s public health advice, the Edinburgh Filmhouse and Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen remain closed as of Wed 18 Mar. HAND SANITISER, ANYONE? In the wake of coronavirus and item shortages across supermarkets and shops, some companies have stepped up to halt their regular production in order to provide the public with essentials like hand sanitiser. Verdant Spirits, based in Dundee’s west end, have stopped production of their gin, hoping to produce 400 litres of the gel. In Edinburgh, Leith Gin have done the same, having set aside 1000 litres of high-strength alcohol to make sanitiser. Elsewhere, BrewDog has made its own Punk Sanitiser Brewgel, also announcing BrewDog Drive Thru, giving customers the chance to get craft beer and food delivered straight to their cars, with 30% off too.

SCOTLAND’S PRECIOUS SEAS In celebration of the Year of Coasts and Waters, the National Museum of Scotland’s new display, titled Scotland’s Precious Seas (until Sun 28 Jun), will celebrate the astonishing beauty and significance of Scottish marine life, and highlight the existential threats it faces from rising sea levels, climate change and pollution. While the National Museum of Scotland is currently closed until further notice, once open again, visitors will be able to view rare specimens from Scotland’s seas and learn about the ongoing research and measures being put in place to protect the diversity and vitality of our marine environment. #PFTLIGHTHOPEJOY Pitlochry Festival Theatre has launched an online poetry series, digital activities for children and young people and a telephone club, giving members of the public a chance to have conversations with both staff and actors while the building itself is closed. The initiatives, launched by Artistic Director Elizabeth Newman, aim to keep the community connected with their local theatre, while fighting loneliness and isolation during the COVID-19 crisis. To make use of the telephone club, you can contact the theatre at marketing@ pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com and you’ll receive a call back from a member of staff or artist, who will speak to you for half an hour over the phone.
