DOC’N ROLL Music documentary festival brings tales of sonic wonder

After a successful debut year, Doc’n Roll will return to venues across Scotland with a series of 13 screenings and seven acclaimed new feature- length documentaries. The festival celebrates music subcultures by bolstering the voices of its performers and labels, and bridging the gap between eager audiences and independent lms.

In addition to screenings, the festival also features Q&A sessions with directors, artists and key music-scene gures, live music sessions and themed after-parties. From Chinese alt-rock to Palestinian underground electronic music, the range of genres and subjects under the spotlight is sure to appeal to all tastes. Edinburgh’s programme will feature a screening of The Rise of the

Synths (Thu 7 May), an account of a digital subculture built on pre-internet electro-futurism, with the capital’s own synth artists ALEX and Gyan Rosling available afterwards to answer all your burning questions. In Glasgow, you can make your way to Desolation

Centre to witness the untold yet remarkable story of the early 80s guerrilla music and art performances that later inspired some of the globe’s biggest music festivals. Further north in Dundee, Doc’n Roll will come to a close with David Crosby: Remember My Name (pictured), AJ Eaton’s feature on the music legend’s redemptive journey.
