Loopy one man band
Perhaps the most economical musical performer in Fringe history. Dan Mayfield brings his live folk'classical oeuvre to the stage — on instruments including guitar. violin, and
glockenspiel -- with just his own two hands and
not a backing track or
transit van in sight. How
so? Through the modern wonder of live
looping, with passages
played on each instrument. recorded and repeated on a
laptop. gradually
building full pieces of Organic music right before your very eyes. ‘l‘d played violin for about 12 years and guitar for about five years. before going to university to study sound engineering,’ he explains. ‘Until then I'd never realised just how much you can do with a computer. It led me to start trying to mesh technology with the traditional. I just thought it would be a challenge to see how much I could get out of it. NIZLOPI Hip hop Van Morrison
Luke Concannon and John Parker met on a school bus when they were just 13 years old. and they‘ve shared a paSSion for music ever since. Now in their 208. the pair are performing under the name Nizlopi. Concannon singing and playing the guitar while Parker slaps his double bass. That rather restrictive line-up shouldn’t encourage you to pigeonhole the duo. though. with Parker citing everything from classical and jazz to hip hop and heavy metal as influences. The pair. hailing from Leamington, have one album under their belts in the delightfully titled Half These Songs Are About You. That record garnered rave reviews and comparisons to a funky David Gray or a hip hop Van Morrison, if you can imagine such a thing. With a wry intelligence and a reputation for amazing live performance. Nizlopi will undoubtedly get feet moving with their genre- busting antics.

BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN Legendary Nashville songwriter
Chapman is something of a legend in country music circles. and is undoubtedly one of the leading singer songwriters of her generation. After a childhood spent travelling around the States. Chapman settled in Nashville on the advice of Beach Boy Bruce Johnston to concentrate on her songwriting. It worked. and she quickly became a firm favourite with other artists, scoring number ones with Willie Nelson, Faith Hill and Lorrie Morgan.
It wasn't until the 19905 that Chapman struck out properly on her own as a performer. but her subsequent career has been as accomplished and successful as her songwriting for others. Her popularity with other artists has remained high, with everyone from Elton John and Neil Diamond to Bonnie Raitt and the Dixie Chicks performing her songs. In recent years she has begun to experiment with different forms of music. and last year she released Hymns. a collection of religious songs. mostly in Latin, from her childhood. But her commercial work continues unabated. last year‘s Look album displaying an artist at the top of her game.
