MUSIC LIST

Street. 9pm. £4. The Icicle Works are, surprise surprise, promoting a new product, namely a halfdecent single called ‘Evangeline’, while Kevin McDermott and friends don’t seem to have any new vinyl to promote at the moment. Sadly, students and friends only.

Edinburgh

0 Bald Cormorant Lord Darnley, West Port. 3pm. Free. See Sat 21.

o Toto and The Bostons and Zero Zero Preservation Hall, Victoria Street. Toto rides into town in the afternoon and slick heavy metal outfit Zero Zero crank up at around 9.30pm, after which the Pres charge £1 admission.

0 Billy Jones Burke and Hare, West Port. Free.

0 BIueIlngerThe Cavern. Cowgate. 0 Back Beat Clowns, High Street. 9pm. Free. Covers from yesteryear

SUNDAY 1 Glasgow

0 China Crisis/The Bible Pavilion Theatre. Renfield Street. 7.30pm. £5. Rescheduled after previous cancellation. Well worth a look at the Bible. whose new single ‘Mahalia’ should be purchased immediately.

0 Freddie and the Dreamers/The Marmalade/Love Altair Barrowland. London Road. 7.30pm. Well, they are probably younger than most of this week’s Top Ten.

Edinburgh

0 Tam White and The Dexters Preservation Hall, Victoria Street. £1 after 9pm. See Sun 22.

0 Billy Jones Lord Damley, West Port. 9.30pm. Free.

0 Snake Pete Party The Cavern, Cowgate.

MONDAY 2 Glasgow

0 Modern Romance Panama J ax, Clyde Walkway, off Clyde Street. 10pm. Just when you thought it was safe to return to the discos! Must take credit for influencing that legendary combo. Black Lace.

Edinburgh

0 Blues ’n' Trouble The Venue, Calton Road. From Edinburgh, and described by B. B. King as ‘the best white blues band around', which says it all, really.

0 Jesse Garon and The Desperadoes, Meat Whiplash, Fizz Bombs and Baby Lemonade The Onion Cellar, The Mission, Victoria Street. 9.30pm. This is billed as a ‘Narodnik Night’, which presumably means we’ll be getting some more vinyl output from the Desperadoes’ label. the Desperadoes have their new single reviewed opposite, Meat Whiplash brought out a couple of lousy singles on Creation, ripping off Fire Engines and Mary Chain. Fizz Bombs feature an ex-Shoppie, and are occasionally referred to around here as Margarita’s Got A Fuzzbox And She’s Going To Kick It Around The Stage Until It Works. Baby Lemonade have so far failed to impress.

TUESDAY 3 Edinburgh

0 Splash Me I’m Drowning (to be confirmed), The Venue, Calton Road. Local pop group.

O EatThe Peach The Cavern, Cowgate.

0 Driving Sideways Preservation Hall, Victoria Street. 9pm. Free.

WEDNESDAY 4 Glasgow

0 Slave Trade The Fixx, Miller Street. 10pm. Free.

0 Nightrider Bruce Hotel, East Kilbride. 9pm. A regular heavy metal spot at the Bruce Hotel. Nightrider are no worse than your average heavy metal band . . .

Edinburgh

0 The Battish Boys The Venue, Calton Road. Remnants ofthe much-missed (by some) March Violets and Skeletal Family. Apparently in the Zodiac Mindwarp mould. but I hope not.

0 Loo Acka Bop Boston Bean Co, St James Centre. 9pm. Free. See Wed 25.

0 Tam Davis The Cavern, Cowgate. 0 Billy Jones Queen Margaret College, Clerwood Terrace. 50p. Students and guests only. No entry after 11pm. Local folk-rock singer/guitarist.

THURSDAY 5

Glasgow

0 Rock Competition QMU, University Gardens. 8pm. No details ofthe line-up yet.

0 Gift ol Vision Jack Daniel’s, Motherwell. 9pm.

0 Julia Please Midas, St Vincent Street. 10.30pm. Free. Well worth a look good band, great singer. So far they have been largely ignored, for they are far better than many of their high-profiled competitors.

Edinburgh

0 The Cult Playhouse Theatre, Greenside Place. 7.30pm. £6, £5.50. Slagged them offenough last issue, so I'll merely note here that they’ve obviously got so fed up of being called the new Led Zeppelin that they‘ve changed their image entirely and adopted Grateful Dead graphics for their latest ads. What a long, strange, predictable trip it’s been.

0 BMX Bandits (to be confirmed), The Venue, Calton Road. Squeaky clean pop kids unite! Another gig from the would-be pop starts who make Altered Images look like mescaline-crazed axe-murderers.

0 Billy Jones Lord Damley, West Port. 9pm. Free.

0 Fauves Clowns, High Street. 9pm. Free.

0 The Dragsters, note Kapelle and Ava-8 The Cavern, Cowgate. Glasgow’s current indie faves being immortalised on video for showing in the Avalanche Record shOp and upcoming video compilation, supported by two local bands. Rote Kapelle have had two singles out so far. notable for some gritty, grinding guitar lines.
