In Man All Should Be Thurs 23—Sat 25 Nov. 7.30pm. £3.50 (£2.50). The Leningrad Puppet Theatre Studio has been operating from a 250-seat theatre since June 1987
where it now specialises in performances for adults. Here they are presenting three farccs by Anton Chekhov: The Bear, The Wedding and The Proposal. The puppeteers work in full view ofthe audience using large-scale Japanese Bunraku-style manipulation and live voices. A small chamber orchestra provides the original score. Part ofthe

Book in advance for this conference organised by the International Union ofMarionette Artists and intended for professional and amateur puppeteers. educationalists and community artists. There will be a series of contributions from Soviet puppet practitioners who are in Glasgow forthe New Beginnings season. The USSR has around 200 puppet theatres which contrasts sharply with the low profile the art-form is given in this country. Their perspective should prove invaluable.
