Temporary Duration at Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, until 3 Aug. Overthe last six months, nine European towns and cities have been playing host to visiting artists with a view to nurturing and developing young talent. Glasgow has done its bit, acting as nursery tor live young artists lrom France, Germany and italy. Temporary Duration is the result at three ol the artists’ sojourn.

From France, Elise Parre’s work is an eclectic mix at the traditional and conceptual. ‘Scottish Landscape’ Is an oil painting oi a hazy horizon, with the title at the piece in cut out letters at the top and bottom at the canvas. Look closer, and you see that the letters have been cut out oi a postcard at a Glasgow panorama. Likewise, ‘Marine i des Alentours’ - ‘Seascape oi the Vicinity’ - is, at tirst glance, a small iramed study ol a ship at sea, with a , strand oi rattia lalllng into two piles on the gallery lloor at either side. I resembles a snapshot caught in the i llow oitime. 1 Time is also a theme in the Italian 1 artist, Gianni Piacentini’s work. ‘At Eight O’Clock’ demands perlecttiming iortuli eltect: it is made up oi a wall at

clocks set at ditterent times so that twice a day they combine to spell a word. Otherworks include an inside out picture irame, where the work is everything outside it, and tangible pieces at booby-trapped sponge and . typewriter ribbon. German artist 2 Charlotte Moeker’s work is also - concerned with observation, not 1 between viewer and artwork, but { between herseil and the television. i ‘Eye Witness Report’ consists oi twenty ; small canvases painted while watching | TV. A homage to the absurdity at l television, and its bombardment oi , Images, this piece is intuitive and -, abstract, with a Nine O’CIock News , palette oi tlesh pink, red, green and l brown.

it looks like these artists had iun in Glasgow. The show is pure Baby Bio.
