This band made its debut at the Queen’s Hall late last year. and did enough to suggest that there were promising directions emerging from the saxophonist’s particular take on the currently endemic interest in fusing jazz with folk influences. it was surprisingly Garbarek-like in places - surprising only in the sense that Phil normally doesn’t sound that way at all — and highly original in others. The saxman is aided by pianist Brian Kellock. guitarist Kevin MacKenzie, Simon Thorpe on bass. and brother Tom on drums.
